How many different manufactures are there, and what is the differences?
There are 6 major shingle manufactures on the market today. They consist of CertainTeed GAF/Elk, Tamko, IKO, Pinnacle and Owens Corning. We group these 6 into 3 categories. The best manufactures are CertainTeed and GAF/Elk. These two manufactures have been in business for the longest, make a quality product, offer extended warranties, and stand behind their products. Tamko and IKO would be the second tier manufactures. They offer a good looking product, with decent quality, and competitive pricing. As a whole these two companies tend to be hard to get a hold of when it comes to quality control issues. They also have loop holes in their warrantee documents. If you look closely there shingles are not warranted in the valley! Pinnacle and Owens Corning are at the bottom tier of manufactures. Their products do not offer a lot of aesthetic appeal, or quality. Though they are a cheaper product you must always remember this is your home, why not protect it with the best product you can afford. We offer roof systems depending on the customer's needs and wants. All of our systems specified come from the top two tiers of manufactures. We prefer to stay with Ceratineed or GAF, but we know that in today's economy money has become a big issue.

What kind of warranty do you offer?
Our Company offers a 5 year written limited warranty on our craftsmanship. We have a full service division to stand behind this warranty. At the completion of the job you will receive a signed warranty document from us. This warranty is normally not transferable, however we have accommodated certain situations, especially if you are putting a new roof on to help with the selling of your home.
Our warranty is pretty easy to understand, the most questions come from the manufactures warranty. Here is a quick synopsis of a manufacture standard shingle warranty. When you purchase a 30yr warranted shingle the manufacture is saying that for 30yrs that shingle should stay free of manufacture defects. However there is proration to this warranty. For the first 5 years of the shingles life the manufacture stands behind that shingle 100%. If it were to fail, they would fix it at pretty much no cost to you. If after the first 5 years that shingle fails you begin to become responsible for some of the replacement costs. The actual value of the shingle begins to prorate after the first 5 years for the rest of the shingle warranty. The manufacture sets a maximum material liability and prorates that down by 1/360 per month. This varies depending on the type of shingle selected. Also the manufacture does not cover labor expenses to replace this shingle. This is a standard shingle warranty and is used throughout the industry . Each manufacture has there own version but for the most part they are similar.

I am purchasing a 30yr shingle, how do I protect myself from defects and poor craftsmanship for more than 5 years.
By having Campopiano Roofing install your roof system we can extend your warranties past that 5 year "sure start" period. We are a Master Elite Contractor by GAF/Elk and we are a SELECT Shingle Roofer certified by CertainTeed. What this means to you is that we can offer extended warranties that most contractors cant. We typically offer two levels of extended warranties. The first level of extended warranty comes standard with all of our CertainTeed and GAF/Elk roofing systems. This extended warranty is called a 4 Star warranty by CertainTeed and a Systems plus warranty by GAF/Elk. What it does it extends the 5 year 100% coverage period from 5 years all the way out to 20years on a 25 or 30 yr warranted shingle. If your shingle fails after year 10 you will be covered 100% both labor and material to fix that defect. The second level of warranty we offer is called a Golden Pledge by GAF/Elk and a 5 Star warranty by CertainTeed. This warranty is usually an extra on all of our proposals. It does the same thing that the first level of warranty does, but it adds another level of protection. With this warranty the manufacture covers our labor and craftsmanship for 20 years. So if your roof leaks at year 15 you are covered, no matter if we are in business or not!!!
Extended warranties are a great thing to think about when purchasing your new roof. However be very careful about what you are purchasing. Extended warranties are only offered by CertainTeed and GAF/Elk. The contractor installing the product must also be certified by CertainTeed or GAF/Elk to be able to offer these warranties. Ask your contractor for his credentials.
GAF/Elk has a great page that also explains the differences in the 3 tiers of warranties. Visit it at www.gaf.com.

How important is ventilation?
Ventilation is extremely important to the roofing system. All manufactures require that your roof be properly ventilated for their warranties to be honored. We evaluate and asses all aspects of your ventilation when we prepare a quote for you. Always ask any contractor preparing a quote what their plan for proper ventilation is.

How does the quoting process work?
Give us a call and we will get you into our system. A piece of mail is automaticly sent out to you. This contains a dvd of short video called "avoiding roofing disasters". We provide this to you free of charge. It is a video produced to help the homeowner with the process of purchasing a new roof. Even if you don't select us as a contractor we want you to be educated. There are too many un-professional contractors out there just looking to make a quick buck. Within a few days of calling one of our estimators will call you to let you know when he will be out to measure your home. At this time, you don't have to be home unless you want to be. Our estimator will leave you a package with product information, and company information for you to start looking at colors, styles, and more. That evening our estimator will take all your measurements, go over every aspect of your home, and calculate a price. Once that his completed he will call you to set up an appointment to deliver your proposal. Either by phone, fax, email, mail, our office, or at your home. The decision is up to you. We do not leave our proposals with you the day we measure your home.

Why don't you leave a quote when you measure my home?
Many homeowners ask if we can just leave a quote in there mailbox while there not home, or they ask if we can just quote the job right there. It is our policy not to do that. There a few reason why. There are a lot of contractors out there some more professional than others. There have been too many times that we have left a quote in a mailbox only to find out that the home owner never received it, usually because the contractor who came by to measure after we did removed it. Another big reason why we don't quote on the spot is because of time. We know your time is very important and so is ours. Why should you have to stand around and wait while we do a bunch of complex calculations in our truck?
